Sharpening Your Router Bit Sets
Taking care of your woodworking instruments is one of the needed attributes of a beginner who wants to become an expert woodworker someday. Molding bits are some of the materials you need to carefully take care of if you want them to stay sharp and functional for future use. Here are some tips to sharpen your molding bits:
1. Use diamond paddles to re-sharpen your router bits. Sharpening the bits would not require you to buy a sharpening jig; just use diamond paddles to sharpen each flute’s flat radial face.
2. Sharpen the router bits using 5 to 10 uniform strokes on each flute. This would make the cut fairly smooth, and would also maintain the balance of the flutes.
3. Re-sharpen the bits at least once a week. Even if your molding bits are made from the highest quality carbide, you still need to do some quick re-sharpening to maintain their sharpness and functionality.
